Why throwing money at a starving child won’t fix it

I still remember the first footage I ever saw of a starving child in Africa. I was completely crushed. I went to my room and took my piggy bank and asked my parents to put all my money in an envelope and send it to the children in Africa.
That’s exactly the idea behind those ads: shocking people into donating money. But how many of us

still have that reaction today? And does it even make sense?
